The Best Pregnant Celebs of 2008
Who says pregnant woman aren’t sexy and looking fabulous.
Nicole Kidman

Due date: Daughter Sunday Rose Kidman Urban was born July 7.
Best known for: Being a major movie star and the ex-wife of Tom Cruise
Baby’s daddy: Country singer husband Keith Urban
Defining Maternity Moment: After suffering an ectopic pregnancy and a miscarriage during her marriage to Cruise, we were all rooting for Nicole to become a mom again (she’s already mama to adopted children Isabella and Connor). The couple know the sex, but they’re not spilling.
Minnie Driver
Best known for: Being nominated as best supporting actress for Good Will Hunting (and getting unceremoniously dumped by costar Matt Damon), and starring with Eddie Izzard in FX’s The Riches
Baby’s daddy: Unknown
Defining Maternity Moment: Although she came clean about her pregnancy on The Tonight Show, she’s never spilled the beans on who the daddy is, saying only, “I’m the public person and he can stay private.”
Gwen Stefani
Best known for: Fronting the ska band No Doubt and designing L.A.M.B., her fashion line
Baby’s daddy: Rocker husband Gavin Rossdale
Defining Maternity Moment: After years of songs about longing for a family, we were thrilled for Gwen when she gave birth to son Kingston in 2006. Now her father-in-law has confirmed rumors that she’s preggers with #2. Despite never leaving the house without a perfect coif and her signature red lipstick, there’s something so lovably down-to-earth about Gwen — she’s even whipping out the same maternity clothes she wore last time around.
Angelina Jolie
Best known for: Winning the Oscar for Girl, Interrupted, saving the world, and being impossibly gorgeous
Baby’s daddy: Actor boyfriend Brad Pitt (heard of him?)
Defining Maternity Moment: Still in her early 30s, Angelina is now expecting twins, who will be her second and third biological children (her first was Shiloh). Already mama to adopted children Maddox, Pax, and Zahara, that will bring her grand total to six kids, making us wonder what we’ve been doing with our time. Angie has mostly kept mum about this pregnancy (even scolding a CNN reporter who tried to bring it up) but debuted an undeniable bump at the Film Independent’s Spirit Awards.
Tori Spelling
Best known for: Playing Donna on Beverly Hills 90210 and being the daughter of late TV mega-hit producer Aaron Spelling
Baby’s daddy: Actor husband Dean McDermott
Defining Maternity Moment: Baby #1 Liam hadn’t even reached his first birthday before Tori announced she was expecting again. Get this for an anticlimactic spill-the-beans moment: She wrote “I’m a big brother” on a note, pinned it to Liam’s shirt, and waited for her husband to figure it out — and waited some more. Finally after 5 minutes Tori had to explain it to him.
Jessica Alba
Best known for: Starring in Fantastic Four
Baby’s daddy: Movie producer fiance Cash Warren
Defining Maternity Moment: Alba and Warren broke up in the summer of 2007, but must have had fun making up, because soon she announced she was pregnant. Alba has a bit of a bad rep for not embracing her Latina roots, but she has said in interviews that although she didn’t grow up speaking Spanish, she plans to raise her child to be bilingual.
Halle Berry
Best known for: Being the first African-American to win the Best Actress Oscar
Baby’s daddy: Canadian model boyfriend Gabriel Aubry
Defining Maternity Moment: It just goes to show that looks aren’t everything: Despite being one of the most gorgeous women on the planet, Berry could not find a good man, divorcing baseball player David Justice and then R&B crooner Eric Benet. She finally got lucky with superhottie and reportedly nice guy Aubry. With two such uber-stunning parents, this baby’s hit the genetic jackpot — and may even give Shiloh a run for her money.
Cate Blanchett
Best known for: Winning the Oscar for playing Katharine Hepburn in The Aviator
Baby’s daddy: Playwright husband Andrew Upton
Defining Maternity Moment: Cate is always effortlessly elegant, and maternity dressing is no exception (see recent Academy Awards, Film Spirit). We’re also dying to know her baby name shortlist for #3; with sons Dashiell and Roman (she’s reportedly having another boy), we know it’s gonna be a good one.
Jennifer Lopez
Best known for: Her famous boyfriends (P. Diddy and Ben Affleck) and her many marriages. And — oh yeah — she sings, dances, and acts, too.
Baby’s daddy: Singer husband Marc Anthony
Defining Maternity Moment: Just call her Mommy from the Block. When Lopez’s famously cut abs went undercover, the chatter started. When she started toning down her dance moves and wearing empire-waist dresses (and, um, did she eat a huge lunch?), the gossip reached a fever pitch. She finally confirmed her obvious pregnancy on the last date of her concert tour, but remained mum on the baby’s ETA or the speculation that she was carrying twins.
Christina Aguilera
Best known for: Possessing killer pipes, and going from sexed-up to old-school on her latest album, Back to Basics
Baby’s daddy: Music exec husband Jordan Bratman
Defining Maternity Moment: Privacy, apparently, is what a girl wants. In the first few months, Aguilera wouldn’t confirm her preggo status, but she pointed out her bump with a big smile on stage, and Paris Hilton forced her out of the pg-closet by calling her “the most beautiful pregnant woman in the world.” Near the end of her pregnancy, she finally flaunted the belly during a nude photo shoot for Marie Claire.
Nicole Richie
Best known for: Starring in The Simple Life — and being very very skinny
Baby’s daddy: Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden
Defining Maternity Moment: And you thought everyone knew about you well before the 12-week safe-to-tell mark! Buzz that the itsy-bitsy Richie was preggers started when she was just 10 weeks along. She used all manner of diversions — pillows, flowy clothes, huge designer purses — to hide her bump, but when she confirmed the pregnancy at almost four months, we all already knew.
